This time the section decided to go to the south of Switzerland, namely Ticino! It was a weekend trip which started on the April 25th in the morning and ended in the evening of April 26th.
Ticino is popularly know in Switzerland as "the sunny porch" of the country. Disregarding the copious amonts of rain, we made sure to bring some sun and positive vibes to it on the ESN HTW Chur party bus.
We first headed to nearby Italy to stroll around the Ponte Tresa market, where among the heaps of junk, household items, and snake oil sellers, we had the chance to try some local produce. The amazing pizza from a traditional wood oven was a great break from the rain.
After a quick check-in at our hostel in Lugano we tamed the adverse weather forecast and headed to town. After strolling around Via Pessina and Via Nassa we walked along the Lungolago lakeside promenade, Piazza Riforma and Parco Ciani.
Afterwards we had aperitif-dinner under the Quartiere Maghetti's porches and then finished the evening at the bars near the USI campus where the meanest and loudest UNO games happened.
Sunday was not sunny. It would have had to be renamed Spring Showers day. Fortunately we have been hosted by one of our board memeber's family near Lugano to one of the largest brunches we had ever seen, with the widest selection of homemade food. Thanks Liz!
In the afternoon we decided to climb the slippery hills of Bellinzona and visit the UNESCO world heritage castles. We were so amazed by the sheer size of some castles that we ended up not realizing that some of us were left behind in the mazes of defensive walls.
It was time to say goodbye to Ticino, but still stopped in the Via Mala canyon on the way back and made our way down several hundreds of steps to the Rhine river and stand in awe at the beauty of the nature of our mountain Canton.
Soon there will be more events for you to read and if you cannot wait, here is the link to our facebook page where you can check out what we do in our events: https://www.facebook.com/ESNChur
